Asian Luxury on top of the mountains- Alila Jabal Akhdar

If I could choose where I would retire, I would live by the mountains. All my life I have been taught to be appreciative of the woods and nature. My love to be in the mountains is partly because I was born in a hill station. Mountains barren or lush green, possess their own elegance and I can adore them all the time. My connection with mountains and road trips began as a child when we traveled by bus for almost 12 hours to visit my grandma every summer. Unlike today’s kids, we had nothing to do except looking outside the window or making friends in the bus.

Alila hotels and resorts are maintaining a five-star luxury on 2200 meters, the hotel seems to just gel in the area. The resort lies close to the Saiq Plateau, an extensive upland plateau surrounded by craggy summits and steep gorges. The resort is surrounded by mountains, small hamlets, old, uninhabited villages, caves, and canyons, as well as countless small roads connecting to new valleys and views. It is a paradise for mountaineers, hikers, and nature lovers.

86 exquisite five-star hotel rooms, architected with stones and wood found in the mountains, look distinctive. Ancient Omani culture hotel décor is indeed prepossessing. Breathtaking mountain views, the glimpse of sunset and sunrise are a visual treat for the guests. Clear night sky with glittering stars and clean air is to unwind. Binoculars can be requested to glaze the stars and the mountains.

Time-lapse at Alila Jabal Akhdar

Away from the hustle and bustle of desert heat and work life, Alila Jabal Akhdar is a perfect getaway. One night in the resort is just not enough, as there are so many activities to engage with. The rooms are spacious, clean and comprehensive. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Conrad, Operations Manager at Alila was on his toes to engage with guests and making sure everything was ok. Alex, Executive Chef was making sure the ingredients were fresh and served in their best way. The F&B Manager was making sure if guests enjoyed their meals at the restaurant.

It was interesting to know, Alila grows their own produce on site, the fresh pomegranate was the highlight of the meals. Alex, the Executive Chef hails from New Zealand. “The climate here is awesome and I can grow the same harvest as I can in New Zealand”, he mentioned. Fresh vegetables, pomegranate, honey, walnuts, roses are produced in-house and served daily to guests.

The kids club is a highlight for families with children, our kids made a few friends there already. The kids club is open from 8am to 8pm that holds different activities during the day. There are rooms with PS4, X-Box, Library, crafts and so much more. Parents can drop the kids and the staff makes sure they are taken care of. Kite flying, dress ups, cooking challenge, movie nights, nature walk are amongst the most popular activities. Indira at the kid’s club was very good with kids.

Kids club offers Activity Passports to children and they get so excited to finish activities to get a stamp on it. The more stamps you have, the more rewards you get. There are some walking trails within the resort, where kids must follow the yellow butterflies and it takes you through the landscapes and other activities. Our kids loved it, they want to go back to Alila. Alila organizes day trips to the abandoned village and wadi nearby and we loved to experience a part of history.

The best part here is the climate, which goes a maximum of 26 degrees in summer and gets much cooler at night. It dips down below zero in winters, during our stay we experienced overcast and almost missed the rain. Believe me, it was hurting a lot to come back to the desert heat.

At Alila, they make sure to nurture the best hospitality along with the finest luxury. Alila Jabal Akhdar is one of the top mountain luxury resorts in the world. Driving to 2200 meters only felt like an achievement, hats off to the guys who maintain the sprawling resort in the lap of nature. We had such a wonderful time at Alila Jabal Akhdar and hope to return soon, next time for longer.
